The City of Solvang Water Department would like to inform the community of an upcoming temporary water supply disruption due to an emergency repair being conducted by the Department of Water Resources on the State Water Project (SWP) pipeline.
As a result of this emergency work, the Central Coast Water Authority (CCWA) will be shutting down its treatment facilities beginning Thursday, June 19 at 6:00 AM, with the outage expected to last approximately four days.
During this period:
- The City’s access to SWP water will be extremely limited, and reserves may be fully depleted within the four-day window.
- To meet community water needs, City staff will increase reliance on local groundwater wells. While this water is safe to drink and meets all health standards, it may result in temporary changes in taste, odor, or appearance due to naturally occurring minerals.
- We are asking all residents and businesses to voluntarily increase conservation efforts during this time. Please refrain from:
- Outdoor watering or irrigation
- Washing vehicles
- Filling swimming pools or spas
- Any other non-essential water use
City staff will promptly reintegrate SWP water into the distribution system as soon as it becomes available.
